Its origins date back more than 5000 years when it was one of the staple foods of the indigenous Aztecs and Mayans, who believed that the fruit – called ahuacati – had aphrodisiac properties. It arrived in Europe thanks to the Spanish conquistadors who, to pronounce its name better, called it Aguacate

How do you eat it?
Due to its flavour and versatility, avocado can be enjoyed on its own or as an ingredient in sweet and savoury dishes.
It is one of the few fruits that, after an initial ripening phase on the tree, undergoes a second ripening phase after harvesting, a physiological process lasting between 6 and 9 days.
To tell if the fruit is ripe, simply apply light pressure to the skin: if it is soft, it is ready to eat.
